Happy June love – Birthday’s are made for celebrating, and on June 2nd I celebrated my thirty-ninth birthday with a group of my good girlfriends. We celebrated with a mimosas and brunch, Malibu Wine Safaris and a dinner. I wanted this birthday to be extra special as I am getting ready to exit my thirties. For me, it needed to be a reflection of where and who I am becoming. The plan was to give my girls what I love to live by, and that’s experiences. Although we were celebrating another year of my life, I wanted for them to have a beautiful experience as much as I did, and it started with my favorite meal of the day, brunch.
We started my birthday festivities with mimosas + brunch catered by my sister-in-law (Lisa Loyd Catering) and everything from the presentation to the food was ah-mazing. On the menu were chicken (not sure you’ve ever tasted chicken like this) and waffles, granola parfaits (cute!), a cheese board (love!), croissant sandwiches (yum!), strawberry and donuts skewers (yep you read that right), other treats and of course, mimosas (cheers!). Lisa completely outdid herself and made not only me a happy girl, but my girlfriends too. Our palette’s were nice and ready for our next stop.
Life should not only be lived, it should be celebrated.

We eventually ended up at Malibu Wine Safaris on the “Stanley The Giraffe” safari tour. The tour is a classic wine tasting meets a wild view on the Giraffe Safari. Basically we had a party with Stanley and his animal friends while sipping on some wine (haha). The tour was so much fun, wine was good (especially the moscato and cabernet), feeding the animals felt awesome and clownin’ with my girls made it worthwhile. It definitely set the tone for how I feel about exiting my thirties, fine like wine. 🙂 Leaving my thirties with lasting memories like this is the way I want to go into the next decade.
You might have guessed that I’m a lover of wine and when it comes to alcohol, it’s about all I’ll drink. I’m not quite a wine connoisseur just yet, but I’ll get there eventually, lol. I prefer red wine, that’s after no longer having as much interest in drinking white wine. By default, celebrating at a winery with a safari for me was a perfect way to spend the day with my gorgeous friends.
The Scoop on Malibu Wine Safaris
Malibu Wine Safaris has been around since 1978 and is family owned. I honestly had no clue it existed until maybe a few years ago. It was included on my list of “places to go” ever since. It’s an 1,000 acre Saddlerock Ranch and vineyard in Malibu, which is unbelievably bigger than Disneyland (how about that?!?).
You are led on an adventure by the driver and tour guide team in an open-air safari vehicle to take in the scenery. There were six tastings in total of wines sourced from local vineyards from Bisous to Zinfandel (consisting of three white and three red wines). We made three stops (which are timed stops) and about two out of those three stops we did the wine tastings and/or fed the animals. We got up close and personal with and fed zebras, bisons (not too too close to them lol), alpacas and finally, Stanley the Giraffe.
I love to think of outside of the box things to do, especially for my birthday’s (I’m such a Gemini or maybe a special kind lol). I’m so happy that my girls were totally down to have this experience with me. They were all so game, no questions asked. Each of these ladies made my birthday celebration a truly amazing one. I feel blessed to have them in my life.
Would you be game to do the Malibu Wine Safaris? What did you think of my experience? Thanks so much for checking in and taking the time to read about my birthday celebration. I hope I inspired you to celebrate your birthday with an experience of a lifetime. It can be one by yourself, with your mate or your girls. Live life and celebrate.
