Get To Know Me

Get To Know Me

Seriously luv, I am grateful for my wonderful readers, new and old, on my blog. I realize how important it is that we get to know each other better so you know more of the person behind the blog – and so I wanted to do a post where you get to know me with the hopes of finding out a little more about you too.

  • Raised by a strong single mother, I was born and raised in San Diego – more specifically Southeast San Diego. Southeast is the urban part of the city of San Diego.
  • In a nutshell because of where I’m from, I am a down-to-earth city girl. And I must admit, a no non-sense type of person too.
  • I was very outgoing and had a lot of friends growing up. Guess you can say that I was a popular kid. I still have friendships that I’ve had for 30+ years (I’m telling my age, lol), but love making new friends. I think its very important to surround yourself with people that no more than you, that don’t stunt your growth and can be your accountability partners.
  • I’m the second oldest, but grew up as the middle child of my mother’s four kids (an older brother, younger brother who passed away at 6 months old because of a hole in his heart and younger sister). And I’m the oldest of my father’s six kids (with two younger sisters and three younger brothers (again may my brother rest in heaven).
  • Although I appreciate it now, I couldn’t stand when my mom would put me in fancy dresses as a little girl with ruffles, lace, silk and velvet fabrics. I was kind of a cross between a girly girl and tomboy. I think depending on my mood, lol. Didn’t mind climbing a fence and getting a little dirty from time to time. Since I had an older brother that I looked up to, I would try and do what he was doing.
  • I’m a night owl and feel the most productive creatively at night.
  • I’m really goofy and love making people around me laugh.
  • I sometimes will sing what I’m saying, lol.
  • I love to travel and look forward to doing more of it because I believe that the places you travel becomes apart of you and it’s good for your mental well being.
  • I was in two teenage singing groups that disbanded, one of which was signed to an indie label in San Diego owned by Alicia Gwynn, wife of Hall of Famer and San Diego Padres Baseball Player Tony Gwynn. Unfortunately the label eventually fizzled.
  • When I was a senior in high school I decided to pursue a career in fashion design. I think this was then that I discovered my love for fashion. But then, somehow found my way back to pursuing music later in college because I missed it. Music will always be my first love.
  • To pursue my dreams in entertainment I moved to the City of Dreams, Los Angeles in 2002 and attended California State University Northridge (Go Matadors!) majoring in Music Industry Studies for one semester and then changed my major to Communication Studies in the following semester.
  • I interned at Capitol Records in the A&R Department for two semesters, graduated with my B.A. in 2005 and started an artist development company with a good friend of mine that I met while in college. The company lasted for about a year because I decided that I wanted to pursue a new career venture.
  • I even dibbled and dabbled in the film industry, acting and producing. Just something else to add to the realm of things I can say I tried and accomplished in my lifetime.
  • Fast forward to 2012, I found my way back to fashion and started a wardrobe styling and image consulting service business in 2014.
  • I started this blog in February 2016 because I thought it would be a great way to brand myself as a stylist and to give style inspiration.
  • My birthday is June 2nd, so yes that makes me a Gemini. We are not two faced, but do have more than one personality depending on which one you bring out of us. You take a pick, lol. To know us is to love us. We are super loyal, free spirited, expressive, quick learners, curious and sociable. Oh, and we believe we can do it all.
  • My smile, personality and wits are what many remember most about me. I smile alot because I believe that it’s good for the soul.
  • I have one child. A seven year old who is in 2nd grade. His name is Jayden and he means the world to me.
  • I’m a newly single mother as I am currently going through a divorce after being in a failing marriage for 4 1/2 years. It turned out to be a very toxic relationship and the experience has made me even stronger and wiser. Let’s just say I have learned some very valuable lessons along the way.
  • My theme for this year has been new independence and I think I’m going to carry it on into 2018. I’m living life on my own terms again and no longer carrying someone else’s on my back.
  • I feel like I’ve found my purpose and that is to empower women to be the best version of themselves. I hope to one day be an advocate for women that leave toxic relationships and help them cope with life after.
  • Giving other women a compliment makes me feel good too.
  • I’m 5’2″ and petite. Many have told me that I look taller in pictures. I think that’s because its the way I carry myself, like I’m tall, lol. I don’t really feel like I’m that short so if you tell me how short I am I’m going to act as though you’re exaggerating because I don’t believe it.
  • I only own two pairs of tennis shoes, lol. Don’t judge me. I like to feel tall so I wear heels a lot more than I do flats.
  • Some of my pet peeves are flaky people, unanswered texts, motorists that decide not to use their signals (especially in busy LA traffic), fake people and immaturity.
  • I usually dress based on my mood.
  • I am strong willed so I am not easily swayed.
  • I’m a huge fan of these three musical talents:  Beyonce, Brandy and Tupac.
  • I am currently apart of a group called Melanin Movement LA created to make a positive impact in our community and help make a difference.
  • I love Thai food and barbecue. But, always love trying new foods. If you live or if you’re ever in LA and you like Thai food you gotta check out Palms Thai Restaurant in Hollywood.
  • My fave colors to wear are burgundy and red because of the way they look on my skin tone.
  • Lover of wine and mimosas.
  • Can’t leave home without my lip balm and can’t live without a flat iron.
  • I don’t wear makeup everyday. Usually only wear makeup when I’m going out or to an event.
  • I love hard and very loyal.
  • My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving.
  • I believe that you reap what you sow and that the universe gives you what you demand with your actions.
  • I am a God fearing woman.

I think I shared just about enough for now, lol. Did you learn anything about me? Hopefully you did. Now it’s your turn. Tell me a little something about you.

Keep it Fancy!

Pentené Milner is a mother, influencer, stylist and all around lifer. She started Style Me Fancy by Pentené (a style, fashion and lifestyle blog) initially to brand herself as a stylist, but quickly turned it into a place to inspire women to find a sense of empowerment in their personal style. She’s a native of San Diego, California, but made Los Angeles her home in 2002. She enjoys being mom to her tween son, city life, fun with family (and friends that are like family), seeing the world, dressing up, dining, wineries and self caring at a spa. To her, as a former singer, music brings everything to light and many times writes while listening to it.
