Holiday Style: Giving Back for the Holidays

Holiday Style: Giving Back for the Holidays

Cheers to you love and your family this holiday season! I’ve been taking mini breaks from my blog to focus on things that are important to me and demanded my attention. One of those things this holiday season has been giving back to those that are less fortunate. I have been giving back with organizations like Warm the Streets LA, ABC Children’s Foundation (founded by my sister) and We Shop LA’s Holiday Charity Soirée to get it done holiday style.

They say that this is the most wonderful time of the year, but not for everyone. It’s also a sad time of the year for many because they don’t have shelter, warm meals to eat, warm clothes on their backs and some don’t have family to share this time with that is supposed to be meant for family. So my question to you is, how have you been giving back this holiday season? I want to share with you how these three charitable organizations made tremendous efforts to warm hearts for the holidays.

Warm The Streets LA had their 4th annual blanket drive this season. Founded by Kenya Kirkland, her goal with the organization and blanket drive is to spread love to the homeless community in the downtown area of Los Angeles by giving out blankets, socks, gloves, hats and toiletries. Her goal is to give encouragement to the homeless community and to let them know that they are not forgotten. It was my first time helping the organization pass out these items on skid row in downtown Los Angeles  to the homeless along with my blogger sister from Melanin Movement LA (a blogger sisterhood group I’m apart of – I talked a little about it here) and it certainly won’t be my last. Just to see the smiles on their faces inspired me to want to do more in 2018.

ABC Children’s Foundation is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization based in San Diego, California and was founded by my sister Asia Montgomery. Their mission is to provide financial assistance to disadvantaged families by helping with school supplies, tutoring services, mentoring, and much more. The organization had their 2nd annual toy drive this year and to help with the toy drive’s success I attended the Holiday Mixer Networking event hosted by Blacks in Technology San Diego (BITSD) and sponsored by Sip Wine & Beer in Escondido, CA. BITSD partnered with ABC Children’s Foundation to host a toy drive for under served youth ages 5 to 12 and I was there to support by donating toys to help with their efforts.

We Shop LA is an organization established in twenty seventeen by two African American Entrepreneurs, Bobbie Gobert of BCG Branding and Cassandra Davis of Born Trendy Boutique to curate successful social events with the hopes of bringing exposure to Los Angeles Brands. Bobbie and Cassandra hosted their first Holiday Charity Soirée this December to give back to teens ages 12 to 18 by benefiting the Children’s Hospital of LA and Noir Unicorn . Children twelve to eighteen years are usually the most forgotten about during the holidays. The attendees were to bring toys, backpacks, gently used clothing, shoes or toiletries upon entry into the event. My group Melanin Movement LA had the opportunity to partner with We Shop LA to continue our efforts of giving back to the community. We were more than happy to be on board and contribute to doing what we could for the cause.

Even if you missed your opportunity to give back this holiday season you can make plans to make sure the next holiday season you do. And of course giving back doesn’t have to stop once the holidays are over. There are so many organizations in your local area that are always looking for volunteers. You can start your new year off by giving back to those in need. Share your blessings by being a blessing.

What are your goals for helping others in 2018? Have you thought about giving back and what that looks like for you? I would love to know. Thanks for reading this post about my latest humanitarian efforts and the part of my life that’s giving me joy. Giving back is so fancy and stylish.
