What Type of Impression Does Your Appearance Give About You?

What Type of Impression Does Your Appearance Give About You?

I remember at a really young age how much it mattered to my mom how my siblings and I looked before we walked out of the house. Our clothes had to be pressed, neat and clean. Hair was always combed and not out of place. I thought my mom was being extra particular about it and I didn’t understand why our appearance mattered so much to her.

Fast forward years later, I realize that appearance influences how people see and treat you. Now I get that it was my mom’s way of making sure that the way me and my siblings were seen was positive. This way of thinking has easily become a part of my everyday life and what I think about each time I get dressed. And at the same time something that I am implementing into my son’s life. Do you often think when you dress yourself for the day, what type of impression does your appearance give about you?

That’s a question I think we all should regularly ask ourselves about our appearance. Not to confuse caring about the impression your appearance gives with caring about what others think about you. I just believe our appearance should be important even to ourselves because it sets the tone for our personal brand. For me, I have a choice to tell my story my way, and I get to do it using my style. How people translate my style story is completely up to them. Your style fundamentally communicates how you feel, who you are, what you may do for work and your personality.

If you are caught in a bind because your appearance doesn’t give the right impression of you, try these tips:

1) Try taking a style personality quiz to determine the styles that suit your personality best. Are you trendy, athletic, classic or dramatic? Try this one.

2) What do you do for a living? Or what do you want to do? You want to make sure that you’re always looking the part.

3) How do your clothing make you feel? Your clothing should make you feel good from the inside and out. Confidence shows up in what you wear. You’re seen before you speak.

4) What colors suit you best? Color psychology is real. You want to wear colors that make you and others feel good. Colors can brighten you up and your mood.

My featured style story communicates that I love to style and feel good in whatever I wear. I’m confident and sure of myself. I love being adventurous with my looks because I’m constantly evolving and learning more about who I am. Guess you can also translate that I’m definitely a style blogger and stylist the way I coordinated this look.

I too was raised to present myself in the best way. My mother used to advise me, “It doesn’t matter where you’re going, always, always dress.” I believe it was also a defense mechanism for blacks in our mother’s generation. Anyways, it turns out I love clothing and impressions. I am also adamant about never allowing clothing and impressions be for the wrong reason, for example I do not make excessive use of brand name clothing and I do not believe we should seek to “Impress” people. The 70s and very early 80s are actually my ideal look, professional women of the 70s early 80s, so beautiful. And honestly I love looking like Daddy’s princess, by Daddy I mean Almighty God. When people see me I want so badly that they see Him and it’s a balance because God does not like showy or flaunt, but in all real ness He is the One that stunts the most. Look at His world and Creations, but they are not gaudy. Still, are they not stunning? I understand you, more than you know. I could create and may create clothing one day. I love clothing and impressions, those humble and stunning ones.

Love learning about your background. I can appreciate when you mentioned that you don’t make excessive use of name brands to impress others. I can definitely agree with that as I choose not to either. I believe it is possible to look good whether you wear a name brand or not and it should not define how others see you. Also I agree when you mention that God is the almighty and really through him we can impress because of his creations. Thank you for being so open and reading this post love. Xo

Love this post girl! It’s so inspiring and you look so stylish and chic on that outfit. I couldn’t agree more about what you’re saying. I think your image is a reflection of who you are and how you want the others to perceive you. So it is really important to dress and look according to your personality and lifestyle.

Thanks so much beautiful! It’s always great to hear feedback about the styling and photography. Greatly appreciated. And yes so true that looking well put together never hurts. There’s really no in between especially when working in a corporate environment such as yourself. I work in an entertainment environment and while there’s no strict dress code, I still dress as if there is one. Thanks again for sharing and your lovely feedback babe. Xo

I remember when I was a kid back home in Africa. When we go out to play and come back home looking filthy, my dad will give us severe beating. He’ll go on about what do you think people will say of you when they see you dirty like that. In my mind, I’m like wtf we’re kids. I suppose he was teaching us a lesson, but damn the beating was sometimes unnecessary. Anywhos you look very stylish and chic Pentene dear. I try to dress decent (classy), cos to be honest I don’t really have the confidence to wear certain things. Lol!

Our parents understood just how judgmental the world could be. Even when we didn’t. And so they cared about how we looked knowing that the world would too. Thanks for sharing beautiful and for your lovely compliments. Xo
